The Miracles of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ): Heavenly Signs, Historical Proofs, and the Everlasting Quran
A compassionate journey exploring how divine intervention verified the truth of prophethood throughout human history—and why one miracle still speaks directly to your heart today.
1. Why Did God Send Prophets with Miracles?
My dear reader, whenever we reflect upon human history, we discover a beautiful, recurring theme: God never leaves humanity wandering in darkness without a guiding light. Throughout the ages, the Creator sent chosen messengers and prophets to remind us of our true purpose, to guide our hearts toward the pure creed of worshipping the One True God, to teach us how to live with compassion and righteousness, and to inform us gently about the unseen realities of the Day of Resurrection and the eternal Life Hereafter.
These messengers were always the finest individuals among their nations. Long before they were tasked with prophethood, they were widely recognized for their spotless character, pristine moral integrity, and unwavering honesty. Yet, because claims about the unseen are so immense, God in His infinite wisdom and mercy granted these prophets undeniable miracles (Mu’jizat), supernatural signs designed to remove every shadow of doubt and confirm that they were indeed backed by the Almighty.

These events were completely beyond human capability. Think for a moment of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), when God parted the vast Red Sea so that the Children of Israel could escape the tyranny of Pharaoh. These signs were clear, decisive manifestations of divine power.
2. The True Source of Miracles: By God’s Will Alone
It is vital to understand a core principle in Islamic theology: miracles do not originate from the innate human power of the prophets themselves. Rather, every single miracle is performed purely through the supreme power, permission, and decree of God Almighty.
The Quran explicitly emphasizes this reality. Consider the words of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) as recorded in the divine revelation:
“I have come to you with a sign from your Lord: I will make the shape of a bird for you out of clay, then breathe into it and, with God’s permission, it will become a real bird; I will heal the blind and the leper, and bring the dead back to life with God’s permission…”
Just as former prophets were granted miraculous signs tailored to their times, the final Prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), was granted extraordinary physical and spiritual miracles throughout his noble life.
3. The Splitting of the Moon (Inshaqaq al-Qamar)
Among the most striking cosmic miracles occurred during the early days of Islam in Mecca. The disbelieving Quraish challenged Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to show them a clear sign to prove his prophethood. In response, by God’s inspiration, the Prophet pointed toward the night sky.
Instantly, the full moon split into two distinct halves before their eyes—one half remaining over the mountain of Abu Qubais and the other moving beyond it. It remained split for a time before converging back together. Although stubborn critics attempted to dismiss it as “illusion” or “magic,” it stood as an indisputable celestial testimony witnessed by many.
📜 Authentic Hadith Proof:
Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: “During the lifetime of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), the moon was split into two parts… On that, Allah’s Messenger said: ‘Witness this miracle.'”
4. Al-Isra’ wal-Mi’raj: The Miraculous Night Journey & Ascension
Shortly before the migration to Medina, during a period of deep emotional hardship, God granted His Messenger the miraculous journey of Al-Isra’ (the Night Journey from Mecca to Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem alongside Angel Gabriel) and Al-Mi’raj (the Ascension through the heavens into the divine presence).
In an era when traveling between Mecca and Jerusalem took a month by camel caravan, completing this journey and returning in a single night was humanly impossible. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shared this event the next morning, critics mocked him.
Yet, the unwavering conviction of his closest companion, Abu Bakr (may God be pleased with him), illuminated the beauty of true faith. When confronted by the mocking crowd, Abu Bakr famously stated:
“If he says so, then it must be true. And where is the wonder of it? He tells me revelations come to him from Heaven to earth in one hour of day or night, and I know him to be speaking the truth.”
To further confirm the truthfulness of the journey, Prophet Muhammad accurately described specific details of trade caravans he had overtaken on his return route including their location, missing camels, and exact arrival times in Mecca. Every detail unfolded precisely as he foretold.

5. Physical Blessings: Multiplication of Food and Flowing Water
On multiple occasions in front of hundreds and thousands of witnesses, God manifested miracles through the Prophet’s hands to relieve severe hardship.
| Miracle Type | Historical Event & Description | Authentic Source |
|---|---|---|
| Multiplication of Food | When invited to a meal prepared for a tiny group, the Prophet called over 1,000 companions. He served them personally until everyone was satisfied, leaving the original tray completely full. | Historical Hadith Collections |
| Water Gushing from Fingers | During a journey when water ran out, the Prophet placed his hand in a small container. Fresh water spouted between his fingers like natural springs, allowing 1,500 companions to drink and make ablution. | Sahih al-Bukhari 5639 |
6. Healing the Sick & Prayers Answered Instantly
The compassion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was constantly supported by divine response.
- Miraculous Healing: During the Battle of Khaybar, his cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib was suffering from a severe eye infection. The Prophet applied his blessed saliva to Ali’s eyes and supplicated for him; Ali was instantly healed as if he had never suffered any ailment.
- Answering Drought with Rain: During a intense drought in Arabia, a companion begged the Prophet during a Friday sermon to ask God for rain. The Prophet raised his hands; instantly, clouds gathered and it rained continuously for seven days. When the rain became overwhelming, he raised his hands again, asking God to let it rain on surrounding hills—and the clouds parted immediately above Medina like a crown.
7. The Crying Date-Palm Trunk: Emotion in Creation
Originally, Prophet Muhammad used to lean against a dry date-palm trunk while delivering Friday sermons in his mosque. When a raised wooden pulpit was built for him to improve visibility, he stepped onto the new pulpit for the first time.
Suddenly, a heartbreaking sound echoed throughout the mosque, the sound of a child crying uncontrollably. It was coming directly from the inanimate tree trunk! The Prophet descended from his pulpit, walked over, and gently wrapped his arms around the trunk, comforting it until its weeping subsided.
“The Prophet explained to his companions: ‘It was crying because of missing what it used to hear of the remembrance of God near it.'”
— Authentic narration recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari 3584
8. Foretelling the Future: Uncanny Prophecies
Beyond physical miracles, God granted Prophet Muhammad knowledge of future events that no human in the 7th century could have predicted on their own.
For example, he foretold that a day would come when impoverished, barefoot bedouin shepherds would actively compete with one another in constructing tall buildings. For over 1,300 years, the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula lived simple desert lives. Yet in the mid-20th century, with the discovery of massive natural resources, this exact prophecy unfolded before the modern world as sky-scraping architecture transformed the region.
9. The Quran: The Greatest, Everlasting Miracle for Humanity
Physical miracles were magnificent signs witnessed by the companions who lived alongside the prophets. However, out of God’s perfect justice and mercy, He granted His final messenger an everlasting miracle, one that can be tested, read, felt, and appreciated by every human being until the end of time: The Holy Quran.
A. Unparalleled Literary Excellence
In 7th-century Arabia, poetry and oral eloquence were the absolute pinnacle of pride. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was illiterate, he could neither read nor write, nor was he ever a poet. Yet, when the verses of the Quran were revealed through him, even his fiercest opponents were awestruck by its sublime rhythm and linguistic majesty.
One of his staunch critics, al-Waleed ibn al-Mugheerah, reluctantly confessed:
“By God! The words brought forth by this man possess a charming sweetness and a particular beauty… It is superior to all other discourses and nothing can surpass it.”
B. Unchanged and Perfectly Preserved
Unlike ancient texts that suffered from historical revisions, human edits, or lost manuscripts, the Quran has remained 100% unaltered for over 1,400 years. Today, over 10 million Muslims of every nationality and language have memorized the entire book word-for-word in its original Arabic text.
Whether you read its original Arabic or reflect upon its meanings through translations like Sahih International on Quran.com, the Quran speaks directly to the human soul, offering comfort, purpose, and clear guidance for life’s journey.
